LAHORE: Advisor to Punjab’s interim chief minister on sports and youth affairs Wahab Riaz received massive public criticism on Wednesday for splashing down on bikers and passers-by on flooded roads in Lahore.

Earlier today, the incessant rain broke a 30-year-old record when the Punjab capital received over 290 mm of rain within 10 hours, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people, officials said.

The metropolis received 291 mm of rain, with more than a dozen areas recording more than 200 mm of rain, Lahore commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa said, adding that this was happening because of climate change and a stronger monsoon.

Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his cabinet today visited various areas of the city to inspect the conditions after the rains and monitor the evacuation and drainage works.

In a video shared on micro-blogging website, Twitter, Riyaz – riding a car – can be seen driving recklessly on flooded roads and sprinkling rain water on passing vehicles and motorcyclists.

Reacting to Riyaz’s attitude, journalist and anchor Raza Zaidi wrote on his Twitter handle that when a fool gets a position, he does so.

Another dubbed it an “illegal sports minister”.

One social media user said, “He is driving the car so fast and he doesn’t care at all about the people walking on the road.”

Another netizen, Reham Wadood, said: “Extremely appalling act by Sports Minister Wahab Riaz as he can be seen driving recklessly on Lahore roads which are waterlogged after heavy rains, hitting passing vehicles and riders.” Water can be seen sprinkling on people doing it.” on his bike.”

Criticizing the former cricketer, some netizens even demanded his resignation.
