Asian Games: Pakistani athletes will participate in 25 sports categories

KARACHI: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has finalized the list of athletes who will compete in 25 different sports during the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.

Pakistan will participate in archery, athletics, bridge, badminton, boxing, cricket, climbing, e-sports, fencing, golf, hockey, kabaddi, karate, rowing, rowing, shooting, squash, swimming, tennis, taekwondo, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

Some of the major sports in which Pakistan will not participate include judo, equestrian, baseball, football and gymnastics. Pakistani athletes would not be able to participate in these games due to funding problems and delays in confirming entries.

These include wrestler Inam Butt, sprinter Mueed Baloch in athletics, weightlifter Noah Butt and Hamza Khan – who recently won the World Junior Squash Championship in Melbourne.
